What to Submit:
 - Experience Reports about Recreations/Replications*
         - Revisiting or recreating prior work, replicating experiments, or applying research in practice.
         - Whether research papers have been previously published or not*

* We believe novel research findings should be published at appropriately sized venues. Authors will retain copyright such that they can later publish papers on studies described in experience reports at RepliCHI.

About the Workshop
==================
RepliCHI 2014 is two-day workshop focusing on the meta-issues of revisiting, recreating, and replicating HCI research. Much of the push-back on the RepliCHI community has been in response to the scientific framing used in the original proposals. RepliCHI, however, is focused on understanding what it means in the broad HCI discipline, to revisit, recreate, or replicate HCI research. For some, this may be scientific in nature, but we are equally focused in the value of revisiting HCI design work, qualitative investigations, ethnographic work, and so on. What does it mean to check, revisit, investigate what we have previously published, and when is this important?

The workshop builds on the successful RepliCHI2013 Workshop (CHI2013), RepliCHI SIG (CHI2012) and Panel (CHI2011). It will provide the next step in an ongoing conversation, aimed at encouraging a culture shift towards embracing and rewarding the recreation, revisitation, replication and/or reproducibility of research in the HCI community.

The RepliCHI venue aims to provide:
a) A venue in which to present experiences of research that focused on revisiting, recreating, or replicating prior HCI findings.
b) A discussion venue, where we debate and consider when and where recreation/revisitation/replication is important, and when it is less important.
c) A learning venue that helps us to understand how to facilitate revisiting HCI research.
d) An opportunity to begin building a library of replication/revisitation of prior HCI work.
e) A venue to continue ongoing conversations about replication/revisition/recreation and RepliCHI

The workshop website ( http://www.replichi.com ) provides further details of the workshop aims and schedule.

Submissions
============
We are inviting 3 types of papers: 1) Experience Reports, 2) Replication Plans, and 3) Position Papers. Each in in 3-5 pages of ACM Extended Abstract format.

Experience reports should elaborate on:
 1. The motivations for your recreation/replication work.
 2. The challenges you faced.
 3. Your successes and the limitations of your replication/recreation.
 4. Whether the results confirmed or challenged or provided more insights into the findings of prior studies.
 5. The potential causes of differences with prior studies. For example, might variations in experimental protocols have accounted for differences?

Detailed Replication Plans - should focus on the same motivations for carrying out the work, but also describe in detail what you plan to do.

Detailed Position Papers - should be well reasoned and researched discussions of the issues relating to revisiting, replicating or recreating HCI work.

In general we believe that novel research findings should be published at venues equivalent to the magnitude of the results and their contribution. Experience Reports may be about a) previously published, b) unpublished, c) teaching, d) industry replications. Authors will retain copyright such that they can publish unpublished studies described in RepliCHI experience reports at a later time. The aim of these reports, therefore, is to help document the nature of replicating HCI systems and research, and provide a starting point for further discussions.

At the workshop - Tandem Presentations & Plan Discussions
==============================================
Day 1 will focus on selected case studies from accepted papers. Where possible, the original authors of work that has been replicated will also be invited to participate in the workshop. In building the RepliCHI community, we aim to accept as many papers as possible and additional papers, not presented as case studies, will be presented as posters.

Day 2 will focus on replication plans. The morning will focus on working-groups discussing any replication plans proposed in submissions to RepliCHI2014. The workshop will round off with discussions on what we have learned about Replication/Recreation/Revisitation of HCI research.
