EC-TEL 2013: Eighth European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning

"Scaling Up Learning for Sustained Impact"

17-21 September 2013, Paphos, Cyprus

http://ec-tel.eu/

The European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning (EC-TEL) is a
unique opportunity for researchers, practitioners, and policy makers
to address current challenges and advances in the field. Through EC-TEL,
established and emerging researchers as well as practitioners,
entrepreneurs, and technology developers explore new collaborations,
strengthen networks, and complement their core experience.

While Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) has created enormous changes
in schools, universities and at the workplaces, innovations have tended
to be unsustainable. Too often, initiatives need a high degree of effort
to be sustained, and are consequently endangered when funding stops.
Many initiatives now focus on scaling up bottom-up initiatives to create
higher and more sustainable impact. These initiatives require an
interdisciplinary perspective in TEL research and development, drawing
on core disciplines of Computer Science, Education, Psychology,
Cognitive Science, and Social Science. This blend of research traditions
has always been a strength of EC-TEL and its vibrant community.

We invite contributions for demonstrations, workshops and project
meetings, as well as original research papers. A doctoral consortium
will also be organized concurrently with the workshops. See the website
for more details: http://ec-tel.eu/

Note: the European Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work
(ECSCW) will be hosted from 21-25 September at the same location as
EC-TEL 2013. So there is a good opportunity to visit both conferences
at the same time.

(http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ectel2013). All papers will
be reviewed through a non-blind review process. Accepted papers will be
published in the conference proceedings. Proceedings will be published
by Springer within their Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) series
which is ranked in the ISI Web of Knowledge. The use of the LNCS
template is mandatory: http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs?SGWID=0-164-6-793341-0

* Full Papers: max. 14 pages, published in proceedings
* Short Papers: max. 6 pages, published in proceeding
* Demonstration Papers: max. 4 pages, published in proceedings
* Poster Papers: max. 4 pages, 2 page summary published in proceedings
* Workshop Proposals: max. 4 pages, not published in proceedings

DEMONSTRATIONS

Please submit a concise, max. 4 pages description of a (running!)
prototype, clearly showing how your technological innovation realises
a learning innovation. All accepted demonstrations will be invited to
participate in the EC-TEL 2013 Demo SLAM session. The audience will vote
for the best EC-TEL prototype in this session and the winner will be
awarded. We encourage demonstration submissions that complement an
EC-TEL research paper submission.

POSTERS

Posters report on significant work in progress. We are planning an
interactive poster and demonstration session in which you can present
your work and elicit feedback from EC-TEL participants. Please submit
a paper up to a maximum of 4 pages long describing your work and the
results that you plan to achieve until September 2013. A 2-page
summary of this will then be published within the EC-TEL proceedings.

WORKSHOPS

EC-TEL 2013 offers the opportunity to host several workshops. Parties
interested to organize a workshop are asked to submit a proposal of
maximum 4 pages long outlining the theme of the workshop, workshop
format, expected participants and domains addressed, dissemination
activities, workshop organizing committee, and organizational
requirements. Proposals should be submitted via the EasyChair system
of EC-TEL. We are exploring possibilities for arranging publication
of all workshop papers in a post-conference proceedings volume to be
published by Springer. Workshop organizers should indicate in their
proposals whether they would like to contribute to such a
post-conference proceedings volume, or whether they are targeting
other high-quality publication outlets such as international
peer-reviewed journals.

PROJECT MEETINGS

In addition to the regular sessions and workshops, EC-TEL offers
a unique opportunity for European Projects in TEL to hold
face-to-face meetings. Please contact the local organization chair
at your earliest convenience to book meeting rooms.

DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM

In contrast to regular conference papers, doctoral consortium
submissions should address specifically PhD student work. All
submissions will be reviewed after acceptance by at least two
senior researchers and one of the accepted doctoral candidates.
Additionally, two discussants, members of the doctoral consortium
committee, will be appointed to each paper. Discussant comments
will be followed by a plenary discussion of the paper.

Doctoral Consortium application submission: May 31, 2013
Doctoral Consortium application notification: June 27, 2013
Doctoral Consortium reviews: July 31, 2013
Doctoral Consortium camera-ready versions: September 4, 2013
Doctoral Consortium: September 17, 2013
