part of the Department of Computer Science and
Information Engineering (, University
of Trento (
Key words: Entity-centric knowledge representation,
semantic repositories, user interface and experience
design, crowdsourcing.

Essential skills and knowledge relevant to the project are:
• Deep understanding of structure and functionality of
entity-centric semantic knowledge bases and
• Deep understanding of visualization and user
interface and experience design for large entitycentric
semantic knowledge bases.
• Understanding of API design and development.
• Understanding of user interface design and
development, fluency with J2EE platform, ORM, IoC,
Web Development frameworks (e.g. Spring,
Hibernate, JSP, jQuery, Bootstrap).

• Technical writing (API documentation).
• Developer community management.
• Open source and open data management
(ecosystem, licensing, community development).

The ideal candidate holds a PhD with top performance
in a field related to the areas mentioned above. The

• Developing a real-world network-wide application
challenge for ESSENCE technologies that can be
used as a common benchmark and unifying
scenario, promote collaboration, and can be used for
outreach and commercialisation activities.
• Identifying appropriate requirements for this scenario
and design a scenario definition methodology
appropriate to computational systems with shared
• To hold an ESSENCE Challenge competition and
provide data for this benchmark in a form that will
benefit other researchers across various
