Mobile Information Systems
(impact factor 0,949 according to Thomson Scientific 2014 Journal Citations Report) Special Issue on Natural Language Processing and Human-Computer Interaction for Mobile devices
http://www.hindawi.com/journals/misy/si/381743/cfp/
New interaction and multimodal interfaces in mobile devices are required in order to present information using different modes and can receive information from different interaction devices. The limited input capabilities of mobile devices (small screens, slow input methods, processing power, storage space, communication capabilities and interaction quality) prompts the need for novel approaches that can bring Natural Language Processing (NLP) power taking into account these capabilities.
The NLP paradigm is generally deemed to be an intuitive mechanism to reduce the gap between computer systems and users. The NLP enables the use of everyday language in order to interact with computer systems through natural language interfaces such as speech recognition, natural language query, and question answering systems. NLP techniques are used to overcome the following challenges: (i) large amounts of information in textual form, which cannot be processed without automatic support; (ii) information integration from heterogeneous sources, and (iii) speech as the preferable mode of interaction in mobile environments and on small devices. Therefore, the use of NLP-based techniques provides new interactions and innovative intelligent interfaces in mobile devices.
The main objective of this special issue is to collect and consolidate innovative and high-quality research contributions regarding the
exploitation of Mobile devices through the use of NLP-based techniques for Information Extraction, Content Development, Automatic Summarization and Question Answering. This special issue aims to provide insights on the recent advances in these topics by soliciting original scientific contributions in the form of theoretical foundations, models, experimental research, surveys, case studies, NLP-based techniques and interaction tools of human computer interfaces for Mobile devices.
