The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar launches a new degree programme in “Human-Computer Interaction”
Starting in the winter semester 2014/15, the Faculty of Media at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will offer a master’s degree programme in “Human-Computer Interaction” (HCI) taught in English. The program introduces students to the state of the art in the field of HCI. The programme offers excellent, scientific and technically-oriented courses and research projects in the areas of usability, tangible interaction, virtual reality, ubiquitous computing, mobile systems, user-centred design, visualisation and computer vision.
In an extensive project-based part of the programme, students will create, develop and evaluate innovative interfaces for human-computer interaction. Here, questions such as the following are addressed: How can we integrate computing into everyday objects and use them, without the aid of keyboard or mouse? And how can we design human-computer interaction to be more effective, efficient, and intuitive? What role will the third dimension play in future interfaces?
Taking part in up to three research projects, students are enabled and encouraged to collaborate with students from other degree programmes in Media Art/Media Design, and from the Faculties of Architecture and Art and Design. The programme at the Faculty of Media features excellent academic supervision and outstanding technical equipment. From autumn 2014, students will also benefit from the up-to-date labs in the newly built research facility “Digital Bauhaus Lab”.
Enrolment in the four-semester master’s degree programme “Human-Computer Interaction” is possible in the winter and summer semester. To be eligible for admission, applicants must have a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Human-Computer Interaction or Media Informatics, or in a Computer Science related subject which includes a basic background in HCI. Excellent applicants with very good German language skills who only partially meet these requirements may be admitted with conditions, e.g. of completing selected courses from the German-language bachelor program in Computer Science and Media.
