===========================================================
Overview
-----------------------------------------------------------
The workshop intends to follow up the work that has been carried on with
the workshops:

SCiLearn 2012: Learning within and from Smart Cities (Sinaia, Romania -
2012), Horizon 2020: Smart City Learning (Villard-de-Lans, France -
2013), Smart City Learning: visions, practical implementations and
impact of glocalities (Beijing, China - 2013), People Centered Smart
Territories Design, Learning and Analytics (Bologna, Italy - 2013);

and concentrate on the transformation of learning that may be induced by
the transformation of DUBAI and other territories in smart territories.

The person, considered in all her/his complexity, will be placed at the
center of educational contexts and scenarios increasingly ubiquitous,
complex, organic. Scenarios where the mediating role of technology will
widen over the time to: foster relationships with the natural
environments, filter content needed to support meaningful experiences at
glocal level, disclose feedback necessary to learn how to manage "in
action", the complexity of static and dynamic, of learning contexts and
processes.

Not by chance His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in a
recent speech, stated: “Our ambition is that this project touches the
life of everyone in our country, or every mother in her house, or every
employee in his work, or every investor in his project, or every child
in his school, and doctor in his clinic."

The workshop welcomes original experiences from all over the world on:

• Models of learning experiences in Smart Cities
• Learning spaces for, and boundaries between formal and informal learning
• Technological, pedagogical, social challenges to learning in smart cities
• Techno-ecosystem for Smart City Learning
• Ubiquitous Gamification
• Digital literacy for Smart City Learning
• Geo-localities and cultural effects
• Privacy, Data Control and Security
• Ecological monitoring and Analytics for Smart City Learning

Format and challenge
-----------------------------------------------------------

During the first half day the selected speakers will present the
contribution they have submitted. Immediately after speakers and
participants will meet local stakeholders to have a briefing on the
Dubai context and the expectation of National Agenda Dubai 2021. Working
groups (WGs) will be formed and a challenge, a design process on
"Learning in Dubai, Smart Cities of the future" will start.
During the morning of second working day WGs are expected to produce
viable future visions and concepts. The participants will explore how
they specific interests and ideas could support the learning in the
future smart Dubai.
The afternoon of the second workshop day will be devoted to the revision
of the design concepts together with local stakeholders and to produce a
document that is expected to represent a starting point to develop
future smart cities learning scenario in Dubai, in 2021 and before
(final document is expected to be further developed by participants
after the end of the workshop).

The workshop and challenge aim to foster dialogue between experts of
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and experts in social innovation and
systemic design related to 'smart cities, villages and territories'. In
this perspective targets those among technologists, educators,
psychologists and sociologists interested in innovative educational
visions taking advantage of the transformation induced by the increasing
smartness of cities. In addition, the workshop is expected to attract
new participants among city planners, policy makers and entrepreneurs
involved in the design and development of smart living environments and
territories.

Format of the contributions & Participants selection
----------------------------------------------------------
Participants will be selected on the basis of a submitted position paper
of maximum 4 pages (IEEE style). All submissions will be reviewed at
least by two members of the scientific committee and by the workshop
organizers.
All submissions will be handled electronically through the EDAS system
website.
The selection will be done to ensure scientific quality together with
the presence of different perspectives and to foster discussion.
To promote discussion we intend to limit the number of accepted
contributions to 15-18 and participation to no more than 25-30 people
(the authors plus a small number of listeners strongly motivated to
contribute to the discussion).

Proceedings
---------------------------------------------------------
Accepted papers will be published papers will be included in IEEE Xplore
and must adhere to the IEEE Xplore PDF specification for compatibility.

After the workshop, participants will be invited to prepare a revised
and extended paper to be included as part of a special issue of
Interaction Design and Architecture(s) (IxD&A). The call for papers will
be open to assure high quality of the special issue.
