** Call for participation in a workshop at UbiComp '06 **
Feeling Comforted, Cared for, and Connected at Home: Nurturant
Technologies in the Domestic Environment
Nurturant technologies are technologies that support emotional
relationships, producing feelings of being comforted and cared about;
they are technologies that help people thrive. This workshop will
explore the potential for technology to support the experience of
being nurtured in the home and the emerging practices (observed or
imagined) around nurturance in the home. These practices will inform
proposals for the design of nurturant technology for a variety of
domains including: healthcare, entertainment, education, spiritual
practice, and communication. Technologies from various domains will
be discussed using the lenses of architectural space and social
context with the goals of 1) understanding emerging practices of
using technology for nurturance and 2) proposing designs for
nurturant technology.
