MULTIMEDIA AT THE DAWN OF THE MILLENNUM

It is our great pleasure to invite you to Ottawa for the Ninth ACM
International Multimedia Conference. The conference continues to be a
unique venue bringing together leading researchers and practitioners
in all areas of multimedia applications, computing, and networking.

Please visit http://www.acm.org/sigmm/MM2001/ or continue reading for
a synopsis of the conference.

THE VENUE

The conference will be held in Ottawa, Canada's beautiful capital.
Often called "Silicon Valley North", Ottawa has a high concentration
of major telecommunications and software companies, such as NORTEL,
ALCATEL/NEWBRIDGE, MITEL, COREL, COGNOS, JDS Uniphase, Entrust and
many others.

The conference will take place at the world-renowned Fairmont Chateau
Laurier Hotel. Reminiscent of a French castle, this great Ottawa
landmark serves as a home-away-from-home to politicians, business
persons and tourists. Perfectly situated at the heart of the capital
and next to the Parliament buildings, all of Ottawa is within easy
walking distance. Extensive office services are available, and after
a busy day, you'll appreciate the fine dining, relaxing pool and
Health Club.

Please check http://www.fairmont.com/ for more information about its
facilities and services.

Note: There is a large NATO conference in Ottawa during the same
week as MM2001. It is STRONGLY advised that you make your Hotel
reservations by July 31, 2001, and by no means later than Aug. 31,
2001, else you risk commuting to Ottawa from Montreal (120 miles)!!

TECHNICAL PROGRAM

The members of the organizing committee have worked hard to produce an
outstanding program. As in past years, the technical program includes
a broad range of the best research in multimedia technology, primarily
in the areas of: multimedia processing and coding; multimedia systems
support and networking; and multimedia tools, end-systems and
applications. The program includes 45 full papers (16% acceptance
rate), 28 short papers being presented as posters, and 22 leading edge
technical demonstrations. The best paper and best student paper will
be presented in a plenary award session at the conclusion of the
conference.
