PhD position in Opportunistic Communications and Vehicular Networks
The Institute of Information Systems in Sierre is a research institute at the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland Valais. It is engaged in research and development in designing, building and deploying novel approaches in various domains. It is situated in Sierre, a town on the border between the French-and German speaking parts of Valais in the center of the Alps. Sierre is ideally situated and is almost equidistant from Milan, Geneva and Zürich, and just 20 minutes from the most famous winter destinations of Switzerland. It is home to higher education institutes in the fields of IT, economics, tourism and social work, creating a real breeding ground for young talents.
We seek a highly motivated PhD candidate willing to have an impact on the future of vehicular networks. The student will contribute in developing techniques for providing Quality of Service (QoS) in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks, exploiting such approaches as software defined networking, content centric networking and opportunistic communications. The successful candidate will join an international team spanning three universities (University of Luxembourg, University of Bern and HES SO) within the context of the SNF CONTACT (CONtext and conTent Aware CommunicaTions for QoS support in VehiculAr Networks) project.
The successful candidate will join the Institute as a Research Assistant. The monthly salary is of approx. 4000 CHF (3650 Euros).
Responsibilities
The candidate will work on applying various modeling approaches to opportunistic communications for vehicular networks and on the design of novel algorithms addressing several open issues. He/she will assess numerically the proposed solutions, as well as conduct experimental evaluations, by designing experiments, deploying experimental testbeds, and running tests.
Requirements
Bachelor and Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a closely related field. Applicants should have strong analytical skills, passion for high quality research, interest in designing and developing innovative approaches and systems.
A background in Wireless Networks and Computer Networking is desirable, but candidates from other backgrounds are welcome.
Applicants should possess good verbal and written English skills, and good proficiency in programming (e.g. C/C++, Java, Android, Matlab).
Application
Applicants should send their application to [log in to unmask] by March 30th, 2016 at the latest.
