IMPORTANT DATES
***************************
- 22 December 2015: submission deadline for all paper types
- 2 February 2015: Notification of acceptance
- 8 February 2015: Camera-ready paper
- 11/12 April 2015: LinkedLearning 2016 workshop day

MOTIVATION
*******************
The emergence of the Web of Data and its gradual adoption in learning or
education-related settings has led to the creation of an embryonic “Web
of Educational Data” including institutional data from universities, as
well as Linked Data about publicly available educational resources. In
addition, informal learning and knowledge exchange are inherent to the
online interactions found on the Web, involving for instance, learning
and knowledge-centric social networks, but also general purpose social
environments such as LinkedIn, where matters related to skills,
competence development or training are central concerns. These
interactions generate a vast amount of informal knowledge resources and
learning traces which, combined with metadata and knowledge from the Web
of data, can significantly transform the production and consumption of
learning material and knowledge. However, widespread adoption, reuse and
analysis of educational data is still hindered by issues that are both
technical as well interdisciplinary. Building on the success of several
editions of the LILE workshop (2011-2015), LILE2016 aims at addressing
such challenges by providing a forum for researchers and practitioners
who make innovative use of Linked Data for educational purposes, and to
discuss, exchange and disseminate their work.

OBJECTIVES & TOPICS
******************************
The workshop aims to be a highly interactive research forum for
exploring the promises of the Web of Data in the broad area of learning
by gathering researchers from the areas of the Semantic Web, Social Web,
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), and Education.
We will welcome high-quality papers about actual trends in (a) how
education takes advantage of the Web of Data, especially through
entity-centric technologies and (b) how principles for data sharing
(Linked Data, embedded annotations etc.) can benefit educational
contexts. We will seek application-oriented, as well as more theoretical
papers and position papers in the following, non-exhaustive list of topics:

- Linked data for informal learning and Web-based education
- Using the Web of Data for personalisation and context-awareness in
Web-based learning
- Exploration of informal learning activities on the Web
- Analytics of pattern and notions of learning in the Social Web
- Schema.org and LRMI for annotating and exploring educational related
Web content
- Entity-centric approaches for analysing and understanding learning
activities
- Light-weight educational metadata schemas and vocabularies
- Usability and advanced user interfaces in learning environments and
linked data
- Exposing learning objects to the Web of Data
- Semantic & syntactic mappings between educational schemas and vocabularies
- Controlled vocabularies, ontologies and terminologies for Web-based
learning
- Learning flows and designs with Semantic Web technologies
- Linked Data in learning analytics and educational data mining
- Visual analytics of educational data
- Linked Data and Microdata/RDFa in organizational learning and learning
organizations
- Linked Data for harmonizing individual learning goals and
organizational objectives
- Analysing & understanding competencies and skills through Linked Data
and knowledge graphs
- Collaborative learning on the Web of Data
- Linked Data enhanced social learning

SUBMISSION & PUBLICATION
**************************************
We welcome the following types of contributions.

- Full papers (up to 6 pages)
- Short papers (up to 3 pages)

All submissions must be written in English and must be formatted
according to the ACM format
(http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates) . Please
submit your contributions electronically in PDF format via the LILE2016
submission system at
https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=lile2016. Papers will be
evaluated according to their significance, originality, technical
content, style, clarity, and relevance to the workshop. At least one
author of each accepted paper is expected to attend the workshop and
register for the conference. The main workshop proceedings will be
published through the ACM Digital Library (http://dl.acm.org/).
Furthermore, authors of selected papers will be invited to submit
extended versions to a dedicated journal special issue.

AWARDS
***************
Best paper awards will be kindly provided by the workshop sponsors, i.e.
the SIG DataTEL (http://ea-tel.eu/sig-datatel/) and GNOSS
(http.//gnoss.com).
