The 11th International Conference on Persuasive Technology
April 5-7, Salzburg, Austria
Paper submission deadline: November 13, 2015

We are happy to announce Mark Aloia as our first keynote speaker! Dr. 
Aloia is the Global Lead for Behavior Change at Philips HealthTech and 
an Associate Professor of Medicine at National Jewish Health in Denver, CO.

Persuasive Technology (PT) is a vibrant interdisciplinary research 
field, focusing on the design, development and evaluation of interactive 
technologies aimed at changing people’s attitudes or behaviors through 
persuasion and social influence, but not through coercion or deception.

The 11th international conference on Persuasive Technologies will be 
held in the heart of Europe, in the beautiful city of Salzburg, Austria. 
After the conference being held in Chicago in 2015 the annual conference 
comes back to Europe. We are proud to host Persuasive Technologies in 
Salzburg, following exquisite sites such as Padua, Sydney, Linköping, 
Columbus, Copenhagen, Claremont, Oulu, Palo Alto, and Eindhoven.

The conference will bring together researchers, colleagues and friends 
from industry who are working in the field of persuasive technologies. 
As a community we aim at enriching people’s lives in various domains by 
supporting their personal goals to change their behavior.

The scope of the conference includes (but is not limited to) the

CONTEXTUAL PERSUASION: Supporting Life Situations and Challenges by 
Persuasive Design
With the conference theme for PT-16 being "Contextual Persuasion“, we 
emphasize the situatedness of interactions. How are interactions with 
persuasive technologies influenced by spatial, temporal, social, or 
individual conditions? How can we analyze and design for specific 
contexts or conditions? We will put emphasis on special target groups 
(e.g. children with anxiety disorders, adults with obesity, etc.) and 
stimulate the audience with potential technologies (e.g. platforms such 
as the Health Suite Digital Platform, the use of advanced sensing 
technologies such as NeuroSky devices, etc.).

This format is suitable for original research, which is completed work 
at the time of submission and, regardless of the length of the paper, is 
a self-sufficient scientific contribution. Papers can be short (6 pages) 
or long (12 pages) in Springer LNCS format, and describe work not 
presented, published or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. Accepted 
papers will be included in the conference proceedings and be devoted a 
timeslot for oral presentation.

Decision notification: January 22, 2016
Camera ready: February 12, 2016

This format is suitable for descriptions of small studies/experiences, 
of project outlines, of work in progress. Authors should submit a 4-page 
abstract in Springer LNCS format. Accepted posters will be included in 
the adjunct conference proceedings. Posters will be displayed and 
presented during a dedicated session of the conference.
Poster submission deadline: January 29, 2016
Decision notification: February 19, 2016
Camera ready: February 26, 2016

The Doctoral Consortium is a special session of the conference where PhD 
students in the early phases of their research can receive advice in a 
constructive atmosphere. Students present and discuss their research 
with other PhD students and a panel of established researchers in the 
area of persuasive technology. Students interested in participating in 
the Doctoral Consortium should submit a 2-page abstract in Springer LNCS 
format describing their research question, its position with respect to 
the state of the art, their research plans and methodology, ideas, and 
results achieved so far. Accepted abstracts will be included in the 
adjunct conference proceedings.
DC submission deadline: January 29, 2016
Decision notification: February 19, 2016
Camera ready: February 26, 2016

If you want to demonstrate a piece of persuasive technology during the 
demo session so that attendees can try and interact with it, please 
submit a 4-page description in Springer LNCS format, including the 
description of the system and its purpose, its status of implementation 
and deployment, contents of the demo to be shown at the conference, and 
equipment. If you want to show a commercial product then you might be 
asked to pay an exhibition fee. Accepted abstracts will be included in 
the adjunct conference proceedings.

Workshops are meant to gather a number of people to work interactively 
on a (future) topic and exchange ideas. Approved workshops will be 
announced on the website. They will take place during a half- or 
full-day session before the conference. If you want to organize a 
workshop, please submit a proposal as a 2-page description in Springer 
LNCS format, including a description of the topic, motivation, 
organization, expected outcome, and supporting materials. Accepted 
proposals will be included in the adjunct conference proceedings.

For the first time we will host a design jam at Persuasive Technologies 
2016. The idea behind this design jam is to create games and playful 
interactive objects that act as persuasive artifacts in various social 
settings. Prototypical implementations of game designs will be  
accomplished in a one-day workshop and presented at the conference. The 
detailed procedure for applicants and dates will be announced.

All types of submissions must be written in English, and sent 
electronically as pdf files through the conference submission system 
( Submissions must comply with the 
Springer LNCS format 
Attention will be paid in the reviewing process to originality, 
technical soundness, quality of writing, ethics, validation, and 
connections with other work in the domain of persuasive technology. To 
support the blind review process of long and short papers, submissions 
need to be anonymous. Names and affiliations must be removed from the 
title page, excessive self-citation in the bibliography must be kept to 
a minimum and citation to the authors' previous work in the text body 
must be in third person (e.g. avoiding “As we described in [1], …” and 
using instead “As <Author Name> described in [1]).

When accepted a camera ready version of the paper (as .pdf) including 
source files (e.g., .doc, .docx or LaTeX files) must be submitted. At 
least one author per submission is required to register before the end 
of the early registration period and be present at the conference. 
Inclusion in the proceedings is conditional upon successful registration.

Accepted papers will be published by Springer in a volume of the Lecture 
Notes in Computer Science series ( Workshop and 
demo descriptions, abstracts from posters, and doctoral consortium 
abstracts will be published as an adjunct proceedings volume with an ISBN.
