Extended submission deadline: ***19 January 2015***
Notifications: February 1st 2015
Workshop: April 18 2015
The question ¡°What to Study in HCI?¡± is simple, yet essential for planning studies, for academic development, and for the advancement of our field. This workshop focuses on two parts of the question:
1. How do individual HCI researchers think about the research questions they tackle, and
2. What is the subject of HCI and which questions should researchers therefore address?
This one-¡©-day workshop brings together seasoned researchers to discuss this question and to contribute different perspectives on how it may be answered. Prior to the workshop, participants will establish a set of readings that may help the field think the question; at the workshop these readings and in particular position papers will be discussed. Keynote speakers at the workshop include Patrick Baudisch and Victoria Bellotti.
We invite you to submit up to 5-¡©page position paper that describes (a) a principled but personal account of how to select what to study, and/or (b) an account of an overlooked research question or subject in HCI.
Position papers are due on January 5th 2015, decisions go to authors on February 1st, and papers are shared among the participants on February 15th. When selecting participants we look for carefully reasoned arguments and a diversity of perspectives. The overall aim is that all participants advance their understanding of what to study in HCI. Key readings and position papers are shared with the community after the workshop. At least one author of each accepted position paper must register and attend the workshop
