We invite you to submit to a TVX 2016 Workshop on Remote Participation in Live Events via Social Media and Livestreaming

Submission Deadline: March 25, 2016 to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>

For more information, visit: https://sociallivestreaming.wordpress.com/

Social media apps, such as Twitter, Instagram, and Periscope, have come into broad use for enabling individuals to share their perspective on live events. In this workshop, we explore how social media can enable remote people to participate and socially interact with a community of people around a live event. Prior research has already demonstrated detecting live events through a burst of social media activity from a specific time and place and related keywords. We want to leverage these existing user practices of publishing to social media during live events to create an opportunity for remote people to experience and interact in these live events. Social media apps already provide the rich media (video, audio, and text), interactive feedback (text, hearts, audio, etc.) and the responsive mobile network for interaction. Today it is difficult to use social media to understand events as they are occurring; and the experience does not feel like being part of a community of remote observers/participants. It’s up to us to put it all together for a compelling social experience! This workshop brings together the top researchers working on these problems, in order to build awareness, community, and possible collaborations.
