This field trip proposes a two-day session to understand and evaluate
technology adoption among the elderly population in one of the urban slums
of Mumbai named Dharavi, through training, probes and shadowing. The aim of
the study is to analyze perceived challenges, influences & motivations,
barriers to adoption and issues faced in two mobile based tasks (a) mobile
wallet transactions and (b) accessing e-health apps. Findings from this
study will be interpreted to formulate design recommendations and
guidelines for the designers, useful to deploy meaningful propositions for
the elderlypopulation, thus aiming to facilitate a smooth transition to the
digital vision of India.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage themselves in an immersive
and highly engaging 2- day session to collect data in-the-wild, synthesize
data and present findings to the conference audience through poster and
presentation and also extend the field trip output and collaborate with
co-researchers to publish their findings in relevant journals/conferences.

We welcome researchers and practitioners from the domain of Accessibility,
Gerontology, HCI, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Computer Science, Design
to join our field trip. We are especially looking for participants with
expertise in in qualitative data collection through subjective evaluation,
analysis and design thinking techniques.

Participants are invited to submit a short reflection of their understanding
 of technology and elderly, preferably focusing on highlighting issues of
elderlyaccessing digital devices. Submissions should be roughly 1 page
(Springer LNCS Format) and include:
– name and affiliation
– research interests
– how does this work align with your own research interest/expertise (max
200 words)

Once the proposal gets accepted, the participant should register for the
Field-trip (two days) through INTERACT 2017 registration page (
https://www.interact2017.org/registration).
