We would like to invite your participation in the ICB-RW (International
Challenge on Biometric Recognition in the Wild). ICB-RW is an
international competition integrated in ICB 2016 (The 9th International
Conference on Biometrics). Moreover, the seven best performing
approaches will be published as a special issue of a top-ranked journal
(IEEE Intelligent Systems), which further justifies the importance of
ICB-RW.

Guest editors of the special issue:

- Hugo Proença (Department of Computer Science, SOCIA Lab., IT-Instituto
de Telecomunicações, University of Beira Interior.)

- Mark Nixon (School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of
Southampton)

- Michele Nappi (BIP_Lab : Biometric and Image Proc. Lab, University of
Salerno)

ICB-RW description: The deployment of video surveillance cameras has
grown astonishingly in the recent years, raising the interest for
automated surveillance systems capable of performing human
identification. However, these scenarios are typically harsh for
recognition purposes, and are usually denoted as "wild" scenarios. With
a view to provide a benchmark dataset for biometric recognition “in-the-
wild”, the QUIS-CAMPI database (http://quiscampi.di.ubi.pt) has been
acquired using a master-slave surveillance system. This dataset will be
used to promote an international competition on biometric recognition in
the wild, the ICB-RW (http://icbrw.di.ubi.pt), whose primary goal is to
push forward the performance of biometric recognition methods in real
world scenarios.
