For prospective MSc students:

M.Sc. programme in Human-Technology Interaction (Tampere, Finland)

Have you ever dreamed of designing the user experience of a brand new technology, or building exciting prototypes that will become new products in the market? If so, it is a perfect time to apply to our Master's degree programme in Human-Technology Interaction!

Our Master's programme offers a variety of exciting course units which can be chosen rather freely from the two participating universities, University of Tampere and Tampere University of Technology. The range of course units start from the basics of user experience in the context of information technology, and extends to hands-on experience in implementing solutions using modern interaction techniques such as speech, gaze, touch and gestures.

It is not necessary to be a computer wizard to apply for this programme. We could turn you into one though, if you wish. Students enter the programme with various Bachelor's degrees, such as Psychology, Sociology, and Computer Science. Please check the exact requirements in each university's application instructions (see the links in the end of this message).

No matter what background you come from, pursuing this degree will open doors to many work opportunities. You may want to become a User Interface Developer creating advanced solutions that broaden capabilities of current devices and user interfaces. Another option is Interaction Designer studying people in their natural environments and designing new technology. Or you could make your career as a Usability and User Experience Specialist researching and designing solutions that are easy and more natural to use. See for further examples!

EU/EAA citizens enjoy the high-quality Finnish education free from tuition fees. There is a tuition fee of 12 000 eur for non-EU/EEA nationals. A scholarship system exists for fee-paying students. This programme is offered in collaboration between two internationally-recognised research groups: the Tampere Unit for Computer-Human Interaction (TAUCHI) at the University of Tampere and the Human-Centered Technology Unit (IHTE) at the Tampere University of Technology. You can combine course units from both universities to tailor the programme to fit your goals and interests.
