Dear colleagues,

We are again promoting a Summer School on Research Methods in Human-Computer Interaction with special emphasis on Ambient Assisted Living. It mainly targets PhD students, researchers and skilled practitioners.

The overarching aim is to improve participants’ understanding of significant research methods commonly or increasingly used in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). Such enhanced understanding will enable them to select and combine appropriate research methods for their specific HCI related projects and to contextualise them without unintended impacts on validity.

This training event is sponsored by COST Action AAPELE, ACM SIGCHI, EstCHI, and Cyprus SIGCHI and CroACM (these are local chapters of ACM SIGCHI and ACM) and co-organised by Tallinn University, University of Zagreb, and University of Dubrovnik.

This event started with COST Action TwinTide in 2012 and has since been organised annually with generous sponsorship from ACM SIGCHI and other institutions.

This edition will take place in Dubrovnik, Croatia from 11th to 15th July, 2016. Participants will be awarded 4 ECTS by Tallinn University, upon full participation in the course.
See here (http://idlab.tlu.ee/rmhci/) for additional information.

The call is open to trainers and trainees.

Trainers
The pedagogical approach to this training school is problem-based learning. Interested colleagues are invited to write David Lamas ([log in to unmask]) and further discuss the possibilities with him. Up to 4 trainers will be sponsored (1000 EUR) by AAPELE. Manifestations of interest include a short bio, a link to a CV available online and a one-page description of the research challenge (context setting, problem statement, goal(s) and possible research question(s)) are accepted until May 29.

You can find out about the research challenge here (http://idlab.tlu.ee/rmhci/?page_id=106).

Trainees
PhD students, researchers and skilled practitioners interested in participating in this training event can read more about the registration process here (http://idlab.tlu.ee/rmhci/?page_id=366). AAPELE will sponsor (700 EUR) up to 20 students. Non-cumulative support from ACM SIGCHI is also available. Applications are accepted until May 29. You can find out about how to register for participation here (http://idlab.tlu.ee/rmhci/?page_id=366)

Sincerely,

Ilya Shmorgun
