Post-doc Position at Politecnico di Milano - Software Performance and
Energy
Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione
Dependable Evolvable Pervasive Software Engineering group

Politecnico di Milano is one of the Technical Universities in Italy,
it was established in 1863 and it is ranked as
one of the most outstanding European universities in Engineering,
Architecture and Industrial Design. In
many disciplines it is regarded as a leading research institution
worldwide. The number of students enrolled
in all campuses is approximately 42,000.
The DEpendable Evolvable Pervasive Software Engineering (DEEP-SE)
group works within the Dipartimento di Elettronica e Informazione
and it has been ranked among the “internationally excellent” groups in
the software engineering area by
[Ren, and Taylor, Commun. ACM 50, 6, Jun.2007] and by a recent
international peer review requested by Politecnico di Milano.

The research activity of the DEEP-SE group focuses on techniques,
tools and frameworks for the development
of complex software systems. It encompasses a variety of aspects of
such systems, ranging from modeling
and analysis issues in the early phases of their development, to
issues related to their implementation and
runtime management with particular emphasis on autonomic middleware
solutions and resource allocation
optimization.

In this context, expressions of interest are being sought for a Post-Doc
position. The successful candidate will participate to the Q-Impress
FP7 EU project (www.q-impress.eu)
on the analysis of Quality of Service of evolving Service oriented
software and on GAME-IT
(http://home.dei.polimi.it/ardagna/game-it/index.html) a nationally
founded
project on the reduction of energy consumption of autonomic systems
infrastructures.

The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in a relevant
field, a good publication track record,
experience in collaborative research projects, and
experience in supervision of junior researchers (Masters and/or PhD
students).

Expertise in performance evaluation, optimization and operation
research, control theory
would be highly regarded. The working language of
the DEEP-SE group is English. Knowledge of Italian is not required.

The position will be fixed-term for one year, renewable for an
additional period of one year. The starting date is negotiable but
should be around 1st November 2009.

Inquiries and expressions of interest, including a curriculum vitae, a
list of publications
(with a shortlist of the three most important papers), and an
outline of prospective research (no more than 2 pages) should be sent
by e-mail to Dr. Raffaela Mirandola and Dr. Danilo Ardagna ([log in to unmask]
).

Deadline for submissions: 20th August 2009 (cut-off date, submissions
received after that date are welcome and will be considered as long as
the fellowship will be still available).
