Since the length of names varies a lot, you could make the text area box
wide enough to hold quite long names and (next to the text box) tell the
user to press enter after each name.
For example, see the FedEx box for entry of tracking numbers under
"Track" at http://www.fedex.com/us/
The user of FedEx's box must press enter to indicate the end of one
number and the start of another one. The app does not automatically
determine where one number ends and the next one begins -- Tracking #'s
(12 digits), Door Tag #'s (14 digits), and Online order #'s can all be
entered.
Here are FedEx's instructions next to the text box:
===========
Enter any combination of up to 30 FedEx Tracking or Door Tag numbers
(one per line)
You can also track FedEx Kinko's Online orders by entering order
numbers.
===========
Actually saying "Press 'Enter'" would be clearer.
