Postdoctoral Position in Deformable User Interactions on Styluses @ Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada
http://cil.csit.carleton.ca/pdf-flexstylus/

** I will also be attending UIST if you would like to discuss this position or other opportunities in the Creative Interactions Lab in person.

The Creative Interactions Lab at Carleton University (http://cil.csit.carleton.ca/) is seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow to conduct research on novel interactions techniques, specifically with deformable user interactions on styluses. We are mostly interested in human computer interaction candidates who have expertise or interests in deformation interaction techniques, shape shifting, and/or tangible user interfaces.

PROJECT

This position will focus on investigating devices that augment the creativity and expressiveness of graphical design artists by applying deformation to their current tools. To examine this, we have created FlexStylus, a deformable pen, which we are presenting this month at UIST. The postdoctoral fellow (PDF) will extend this work by focusing on the design, fabrication and evaluation of the next versions of FlexStylus. The PDF will contribute to the leadership of ongoing projects while also initiating new ones based on their unique background and expertise. The PDF will also have the opportunity to supervise graduate and undergraduate students.

- track record of publication in high-quality venues related to human computer interaction and/or sensors
- creativity, independence
- excellent team working and communication skills, and high motivation for research at the intersection of HCI and new technologies

Start date is flexible. Position length is 12 months with an option to extend.
