Kyoto University (Japan): PostDoc position in Geographical Analysis of
Social Media

Kyoto University is one of the top 5 universities in Japan and is typically
ranked within 30-100 best universities worldwide.

The group of Assoc. Prof. Adam Jatowt ( offers 1 full-time PostDoc
position in the area of social media and social network analysis & mining,
starting as soon as possible. The group has been publishing at TKDE, TOIS,
IPM, WWW, KDD, WSDM, CIKM, ACL, Ubicomp, etc. The current project focuses
on developing frameworks and techniques for retrieving geographical
information from social media data (e.g., Twitter). The postdoc will work
on effective models for capturing useful data to be utilised for automatic
suggestion of customised routes.

We are seeking an outstanding and highly motivated postdoctoral candidate
to join the School of Informatics at Kyoto University, Japan.

Required Qualifications:
   . PhD (or close to completion of PhD) in Computer Science, Information
Systems or a related area
   . Applications with research experience in data mining, text mining,
artificial intelligence, or information retrieval are welcome
   . Strong publication record with publications in top level conferences
and/or journals
   . Strong research skills
   . Strong programming skills
   . Strong verbal and written communication skills
   . Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work

The postdoctoral researcher will be working under the supervision of Dr.
Adam Jatowt as well as in collaboration with project researchers from Kyoto
Sangyo University. A particular advantage of the position is that it is a
pure research position, with no need for administrative tasks like
deliverable writing etc. The position is initially for one year, with the
possibility of extension for additional 1-2 years upon mutual consent.
Starting time should be no later than August/September, 2017 but this can
be negotiable.
