Towards Interdisciplinary Dialog in Service Design Contexts Workshop **

Services represent more than 70% of the IS development market. The IS
community has been called to address the study of Information Systems as
enablers of service contexts. As such, Service Design has become a central
theme for IS development and governance phenomena. Although Service Design has
congregated several methods and techniques from diverse areas, with and
without adaptations, much work is still to be done to reach an integrated
perspective on the Service Design and development phenomena. Innovation and
sustainability of IS interventions in the Service Design field could benefit
from strengthening a dialog across related disciplines, researching and
developing a common body-of-knowledge through shared concepts, models and
methods. This complex socio-technical context motivates significant changes as
to how we understand the role of IS in networked organizations and distributed
value systems. Transitioning service contexts pose significant new challenges,
such as resilience and sustainability, demanding both an interdisciplinary
understanding and a participatory perspective, to balance global platforms and
local actors.

*Goals and Agenda **
*The workshop theme calls for a broader participation of concerned communities
such as Design, Software Engineering, HCI, CSCW, Management, Sociology,
Economics, and other disciplines, enabling an expansion of IS towards
important interdisciplinary work. The main purpose of this workshop is to
establish dialog, with an outlook for collecting viewpoints that can serve as
a basis for future collaboration. Assessing participant interest, we aim to
gather a collection of draft papers to propose a special issue on a journal or
a book edition. At this stage we plan to accept up to 20 participants with the
positions better aligned with the theme.

*Workshop Format **
*The proposed one day program will be structured along three phases:
-- Quick round of 10 min presentations on participant background and
positioning for a research agenda;
-- Open debate on the proposed themes with the aim of identifying goals and
opportunities for collaboration;
-- Wrap up with workshop conclusions and proposals for next joint initiatives
and publication plans.
