Call for Applications
NSF Student Travel Grant for IEEE SMARTCOMP 2018
(For US-based Students ONLY, pending NSF approval)

The 4th IEEE International Conference on Smart Computing (SMARTCOMP
2018) (www.smart-comp.org) to be held in Taormina, Sicily, Italy on June
18-20, 2018 is pleased to providing competitive travel grants for US
based students to attend SMARTCOMP 2018 conference and all co-located
events such as Workshops, Ph.D. Forum, Work-in-Progress, Poster and Demo
sessions.

The funding for travel grant is pending approval of National Science
Foundation (NSF) – www.nsf.gov. If approved, the funding is
available only to full time students attending colleges and universities
in the US. Women and Underrepresented Minority students are strongly
encouraged. Exceptional undergraduate students engaged in research
(e.g., NSF REU students), MS research and PhD students, and beginning
post doctoral researchers will be given full consideration. To be
eligible for NSF travel grant, US-based students (referred to as “you”)
must apply no later than Friday, March 30, 2018 via EasyChair
(http://www.smart-comp.org/nsf-travel-grant-for-us-students.html).

Eligible Ph.D. students applying for NSF student travel grant will also
be expected to participate in the Ph.D. Forum. Instructions on how to
submit two-page abstract for Ph.D. Forum are available at
http://www.smart-comp.org/call-for-phd-forum.html. 

How to Apply:

1. Obtain a letter from your advisor/professor confirming that:
- You are currently a full-time research student in good standing in a
US institution and working in areas related to smart computing.
- You will be attending IEEE SMARTCOMP 2018 conference and associated
events.
- The remainder of your travel support will be covered by other means
(indicate how).

2. Write a personal statement describing your research interests, and
how you wish to benefit from attending SMARTCOMP 2018. Indicate your
full-time student status (B.S./M.S./Ph.D./Postdoc), and location you
will be traveling from.

3. Upload the above documents along with two-page CV via EasyChair
(https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=smartcomp2018) by selecting the
track “SMARTCOMP2018: NSF Student Travel Grant Applications”.

4. Make sure to submit an Abstract for Ph.D. Forum, if you are a Ph.D.
student.

Please note that IEEE SMARTCOMP conference may not be able to reimburse
all of your travel expenses due to the limited budget. Eligible expenses
for reimbursement include advance student registration fee, hotel, and
transportation (economy airfare, bus or train). Expenses that are not
eligible for reimbursement include regular and/or on-site registration,
taxi and meals. Student travel grants are available in the form of
reimbursements that are sent only after the completion of the conference
and receipt of all required documentation and receipts. The
reimbursement amount will be based on the number of awards made and
distance traveled.
