Call for Participation
Fourth Workshop on Everyday Virtual Reality
Co-hosted with IEEE Virtual Reality 2018
Reutlingen, Germany 18 March 2018
http://wevr.adalsimeone.me
=======================================

Important Dates
Abstract submission: 28 January 2018
Submission Deadline: 4 February 2018
Notification: 10 February 2018
Camera-Ready: 24 February 2018
Conference Early Registration: 18 February 2018

Traditionally, Virtual Reality has been conceived for purpose-built highly instrumented laboratories. However, the commercial release of consumer grade Virtual Reality head-mounted displays has allowed a wider user base to experience VR in everyday environments such as their own home or office. In these domestic environments obstacles are commonplace and tracking is not trivial. If consumer VR is to evolve beyond the desktop paradigm, a rethinking of the way we design and implement interactive VR systems for these environments is needed.

Everyday Virtual Reality focuses on the investigation of well-known VR research themes in all those contexts and scenarios other than research laboratories and specialist environments.

This half-day workshop will bring together researchers and industry practitioners to explore these new challenges and define a new research agenda. We invite authors to submit 4-page position papers, preliminary research results, novel concepts or case studies (up to a maximum of 6 pages).

Location
Stadthalle Reutlingen
Reutlingen, Germany (co-located with IEEE Virtual Reality 2018)
Date: either 18 or 19 March 2018.

Topics of interest
We invite submissions pertaining to the intersection between the following themes (but are not limited to) and “everyday” contexts of use such as user’s homes and offices.

* Gameplay Design and Player Interaction in VR
* Overcoming constraints of real environments (e.g. locomotion techniques, object avoidance)
* Tangible and haptics support to interaction with the environment
* Co-located and Remote Social & Collaborative VR and related challenges (Intersection of Immersed and Non/Semi-Immersed Users)
* 3D User Interfaces for Desktop or semi-immersive VR
* VR home healthcare and education
* Effects of prolonged VR use in domestic settings
* New trends of VR applications

Research works on the above themes that do not focus on everyday contexts are not suitable for this workshop.

Submission Information
Papers should be submitted via our EasyChair site (http://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wevr2018). Submissions must be anonymised and in PDF format, using the IEEE template (http://junctionpublishing.org/vgtc/Tasks/camera.html). A committee of expert reviewers in the aforementioned domains will review all submissions.

At least one author per paper must register for the workshop as well as one day of the IEEE VR/3DUI conference. Authors of accepted papers will be expected to give a 10 minutes presentation at the workshop. Proceedings will be submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Digital Library.
