                ABIS-Workshop 2002:
      Personalization for the Mobile World
October 9th-11th, 2002, during a week of workshops
       "LLA02: Learning - Teaching - Adaptivity"
              (Lernen - Lehren - Adaptivität)
                  in Hannover, Germany
     http://www.kbs.uni-hannover.de/~henze/lla02/

Adaptive and adaptable information systems enable intelligent,
personalized access to the internet or to databases, personal agents
advise customers in virtual shops, adaptive learning systems learn
together with students in order to provide optimal support tailored to
the individual student's learning process.

The ABIS-Workshop has been established as a forum for discussing the
state of the art in personalization and user modeling. Recent
developments in industry and research are presented in plenary sessions,
forums, and tutorials discuss trends and experiences.

This year, the ABIS Workshop has the motto "Personalization for the
mobile world". Applications of user modeling and adaptation on mobile
and UMTS devices and the adaptive web are the main topics. Special
discussion groups like "standard metadata and personalization in
e-learning" are scheduled.

Submissions from research and industry within the broad area of user
modeling and adaptive systems are welcome. Special emphasis is on
submissions in the following areas:

      Personalization for mobile devices
adaptive user interfaces for multiple platforms
         communication interfaces
         portable user models
         privacy, security
      Personal e-commerce
         systems and experiences
         techniques
         interfaces
     Personalization for
         information systems
         knowledge management
         e-learning
     Perspectives of user modeling
acceptance and transparency of adaptive systems
         visualization of personalized reasoning

We particularly want to encourage young researchers working on Master or
PhD level to submit a paper in order to discuss their ongoing research
with experts in the area.

The ABIS-workshop will take place from October 9th to 11th as a joint
week of workshops on machine learning, intelligent tutorial systems,
adaptivity, and user modeling (LLA02) in Hannover. Responsible for the
organization of the workshop is the SIG ABIS of the German Computer
Society (http://www.gi-ev.de). October 9th is dedicated to discuss cross
sectional issues of the participating workshops in common sessions.
