Call for Participation: CHI 2018 Course: From Tool to Partner: The Evolution of Human-Computer Interaction
We are in a new era of HCI, yet a high-level look back can help researchers and practitioners identify opportunities and avoid pitfalls. Engineering, Human Factors, Information Systems, Library & Information Science, Design, Graphics, AI-how have these fields interacted, why didn't they interact more, what can you get from them, and how? The course material draws on my Morgan & Claypool book of the same name, www.morganclaypoolpublishers.com/grudin<http://www.morganclaypoolpublishers.com/grudin>. The presentation relies mainly on timelines and quotations, not bullet points. If something like this existed when I started out in HCI, my life would have been different. That's why I interviewed hundreds of people and constructed this course.
