HCI in Ubicomp: Summer student research experience in Germany

http://hciunh.org/hci-ubicomp-ires/

We are inviting undergraduate and graduate students to apply for a summer student research experience in Germany. The general topic of the experience is HCI in ubiquitous computing. We expect, during the summer of 2018, 3 undergraduate and 3 graduate students will conduct research for just under 9 weeks in either Professor Albrecht Schmidt’s lab at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, or in Susanne Boll’s lab at the University of Oldenburg. The program is funded by the NSF through its International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program. On the US side the program is led by Andrew Kun (University of New Hampshire), and Orit Shaer (Wellesley College).

Student research within the program will focus on topics in the area of in-vehicle HCI, HCI for ship bridges, designing HCI with augmented reality, and interactions with large displays. The specific topics will be tailored to the interests and skills of the students.

Successful applicants will receive full financial support for participation, covering items such as airfare, room and board, health insurance, as well as a $500/week stipend. The total value of the financial package is approximately $8,500 for 9 weeks.

Details about the program, including the details of the financial package, and applications instructions, are available at http://hciunh.org/hci-ubicomp-ires/. Please note that this program is only available to US citizens and permanent residents.

To apply, or if you have questions, send email to Andrew Kun and Orit Shaer, at the following email address dedicated to IRES inquiries and applications: [log in to unmask]
