This symposium will examine the technical hurdles and highlight case-studies
of real-time applications and discuss transitioning new technologies into
real systems. It will assemble researchers from interdisciplinary
backgrounds to utilize practical, innovative approaches to theory that will
impact real-world applications.
Simulations in the laboratory are not adequate for designing systems.
Real-time testing on live systems is essential. Come hear firsthand from the
experts who are building these systems and learn about the obstacles they
are facing. Focusing on practical solutions instrumental in building
successful systems, each session is devoted to a specific topic with invited
talks by leading experts in the area, followed by peer-reviewed papers and
posters, ending with an open discussion panel.

We solicit original and unpublished research results on various aspects of
distributed sensor networks, including (but not limited to) the following
topics:

* Sensor network architectures and protocols
*  Network sensing and control
* Network coverage, connectivity, and longevity
* Data storage in sensor networks
* Sensor network planning, provisioning, calibration, and deployment
*  Deployment experiences and testbeds
*  Location and time services
* Coding, compression, and information theory
*  Energy and resource management
* Distributed and collaborative signal processing
*  Real-time operating systems
*  Distributed query processing
*  Distributed information fusion
*  In-network processing & aggregation
* Programming models, languages, and development tools
* Application and demonstration of sensor networks
* Middleware and software platforms for sensor networks

Important dates:
* Paper submission: November 15, 2008 [EXTENDED]
* Notification of acceptance: December 15, 2008
* Camera ready papers due: January 15, 2008
