Job Vacancy: Postdoctoral Research Assistant: Digital Platforms for Craft in the UK and China

We are recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Assistant to be based in London, UK, as part of the AHRC funded Digital Platforms for Craft in the UK and China project (AHRC Reference: AH/S003401/1) which is a collaboration between Queen Mary University of London (UK) and Hunan University (China).

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an international project mapping out the use and features of digital platforms in craft sectors of the Creative Economies in China and the UK. The project will gather data through a combination of desk research, workshops, surveys, researcher immersions, and interviews with stakeholders. The outputs of the project include online web resources providing case studies of best practice use of digital platforms in the craft sector, and both academic and non-academic reports on the use and value of digital platforms for craft in the UK and China. The project is led by Principal Investigators in the UK and China and a Chinese Co-Investigator, and is supported by Creative Economy organisations including QMUL’s research centre for the Creative and Cultural Economy (Network) and the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Big Data Platform of UNESCO. Two research assistants (one in the UK and one in China) will undertake the majority of the research work, production of web resources, and writing of reports of the project under the guidance of the academic investigators.

Applicants should have a PhD (awarded or reasonably expected to be awarded within 3 months) in one of the following: Social Sciences, Media and Arts Technology, Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, or similar discipline or equivalent experience.

The ideal candidate should have experience in conducting surveys, interviews, questionnaires, studies, field studies, and workshops with people, preferably in a technology related area.

Familiarity with qualitative analysis methods for designing and deploying surveys, interviews, and questionnaires and experience with conducting research, understanding the research process and summarising findings is essential for this post. It is desirable for the applicant to have Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and/or experience with relevant statistical software e.g. for analysing surveys and questionnaires.

The post is full time, fixed term appointment for 18 months, with an expected start date of 01 Dec 2018. Starting salary will be in the range of £33,615 - £37,411 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
