ISCRAM 2020 Workshop on Sustainability in Crisis:
Towards Continuity in Business Organizations
24th May, 2020, Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
http://www.bussinesscontinuity.de/

Workshop Topics

The workshop brings business organizations into the limelight of crisis research at ISCRAM 2020. With the rapidly increasing natural disasters due to climate change and escalating cyber-crimes due to digitally exposed nature of businesses, crisis seems to be inevitable. While the supply chain resilience of the global business community is being tested with the recent pandemic of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in China, businesses around the globe are reporting disruptions because of the stoppages in shipments from China and the impacts are far reaching. The cancelation of the world’s biggest phone show (The Mobile World Congress), the ferocity of phishing attacks spreading false information and the “butterfly effect” of coronavirus on the B2B centric small and medium enterprises are some examples, strongly emphasizing the need to reconsider the concepts of organizational disaster resilience.
The workshop themes revolve around the concept of organizational disaster resilience. There are certain practices like business continuity management and operational risk management, which are successfully employed in big enterprises for accomplishing disaster resilience. These practices can be adapted to the respective requirements in order to be used in a wider context of all kind of organizations including small, medium, micro and meso enterprises. The workshop topics may include themes like:

· Digitalization and the increasing technological vulnerabilities
· Technologies for organizational disaster resilience
· Business impact assessment as a futuristic approach
· How robust a business continuity plan should be?
· Implications of digitalization on organizational resilience practices
· Role of continuity planning in the ever-changing business world
· Taming BCM for SME
· Industry 4.0 and evolving business continuity
· Is Internet of Things an option for improved disaster resilience?
· Strategies for continuity and information availability during crisis
· Role of situation awareness in business continuity

How to Participate?

The workshop invites researchers and practitioners in the fields of social sciences, economics, management, human computer interaction (HCI), computer supported-cooperative work (CSCW), emergency management, crisis management, disaster recovery and planning, business continuity management, (operational) risk management etc.

There are two options to get involved:

Option 1: Participants can submit a 2-4-page short position paper about their key interests in the topic of organizational disaster resilience (recommended for researchers).
Option 2: Participants can submit a one-page summary of the topic they want to be discussed in the workshop (recommended for practitioners).

Participants are requested to submit their participations to hold an 8-10 min-presentation about the topic of their choice with the perspective of organizational disaster resilience. The short position papers as well as the one-page summary will be distributed to all the participants before the workshop to allow preparation beforehand and to foster intense discussions in the event. The position papers must be submitted using the paper template<https://iscram2020continuity.yolasite.com/resources/ISCRAM2020-ConferencePaperTemplate%20(1).docx> by ISCRAM. It is requested that 'All' or at least 'One' of the contributors must participate in the workshop and the open dialogue session. The paper template is also available in LaTeX<https://iscram2020continuity.yolasite.com/resources/ISCRAM2020-LaTeXTemplate.zip>.
