FINAL CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
HUC'99 International Symposium on Handheld and Ubiquitous Computing
27-29 Sept 1999, Karlsruhe, Germany; in cooperation with ACM and GI
http://www.teco.edu/huc/
NEW INTERFACES --- NOVEL APPLICATIONS
New interfaces to information and computing are emerging:
- based on personal information tools such as wearables, PDAs...
- based on information technology embedded in everyday things and
environments, for example in home appliances, public information spaces,
and smart buildings
Novel applications may be based on
- networked appliances rather than general-purpose computers
- unobtrusive technologies suited for everyday use
- improved awareness of context and situation.
The HUC99 symposium aims to explore links and synergies between
developments in personal technologies (wearables, handhelds,...) and
environment-based technologies (smart environments, networked
appliances,...). The event will be held in Karlsruhe at the Centre for
Arts and Media (ZKM), an inspiring environment with hands-on media
installations. Karlsruhe is situated in the Upper Rhine Valley bordering
Black Forest, Alsace, and Palatine, and can easily be reached via direct
high-speed train from Frankfurt Airport.
