The Wheat and Chaff of Speech Recognition
User interface design challenges in speech recognition

Presenters: Jonathan Bloom, Speech UI Designer at ScanSoft and Rene Holl,
User Experience Manager at Morgan Stanley.

Jonathan Bloom, Speech UI Designer at ScanSoft, is often skeptical of speech
recognition, despite the fact that he works for a company that sells the
services. Join us for a presentation in which he will discuss the
limitations of speech recognition and the need for a more tempered
understanding of how to best use it. He'll also address how speech
recognition is tested for usability and what they've learned in the process.
Then, Rene Holl will present a case study of an automated dictation system
for radiologists that used speech recognition technology and the usability
testing that was done on it.
