Thomas T. Hewett, Drexel University, USA
Saturday July 19, 2003 from 9:00 to 5:30 At Soar Technology, 3600 Green
Court Ann Arbor MI
Sponsored by Soar Technology and MOCHI, the Michigan Ohio Local SIGCHI
Chapter
Benefits
You will learn some theoretical and practical aspects of how people remember
information and solve problems. You will gain insights about how to take
advantage of these capabilities in designing for your most important
interaction component, the mind.
Features
a.. Understand a variety of phenomena through both lecture and "minds-on"
exposure
b.. Develop a basis for making educated design choices when guidelines
fail
c.. Relate some cognitive phenomena to some aspects of human-computer
interaction
d.. Gain some resources useful for self-directed study in cognitive
psychology
e.. Obtain a useful set of materials for teaching and demonstration to
others
Audience
Interaction designers and developers who have found users have minds of
their own. Anyone involved with interactive system design who has not done
course work in cognitive psychology. Not intended for the human factors
specialist, the person with extensive coursework in psychology, or the
person seeking a state-of-the-art literature review. The approach to the
material is reflective and so not intended for the person seeking "instant"
or pre-packaged solutions for the problems of this week's project.
Presentation
Interactive presentation and minds-on exercises.
Instructor
Tom Hewett is Professor of Psychology and Computer Science. He teaches
