*Special issue on Data-Driven Personality Modeling for Intelligent
Human-Computer Interaction*

Recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have enabled new forms of
human-computer interaction characterized by greater adaptability and better
human-machine symbiosis. To facilitate the development of next generation
AI agents that can truly understand and collaborate with humans, it is
important that AI agents can understand and adapt to individual differences
or personality traits. Here we define the word *personality* broadly to
refer to the patterns of human thoughts, feelings, social adjustments,
and behaviors consistently exhibited over time that strongly influence
one's expectations, self-perceptions, values, and attitudes.

Given the complexity of human minds and the unpredictability of human
behavior, modeling personality is very challenging. In this special issue,
we will feature cutting-edge research employing data-driven approaches to
sift through large amounts of human behavioral evidence to uncover
personality traits computationally.

*Scope, Description, and More Information*

This special issue invites submissions featuring original research related
to designing and developing data-driven approaches to personality modeling.
A suitable submission must also demonstrate its relevance to TiiS, the
premier journal featuring interactive intelligent systems with two distinct
characteristics: *intelligence* and *interactivity*. In particular, a
suitable submission must exhibit or discuss how the resulting personality
models can be used to enhance human-computer interaction. Interdisciplinary
research is especially encouraged.

Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

   - Modeling and predicting diverse personality traits, such as Big 5
personality traits, cognitive characteristics, emotional signatures, trust,
motivations, and needs, using one or more sources of user behavior data,
including texts, images, sensors, social media, and conversations.
   - Modeling personality traits to predict real-world human behaviors,
such as purchase decisions, learning behavior, eating habit, and substance
   - Modeling personality traits to predict online human behaviors such as
re-tweeting, following, trolling and cyber-bullying from online user data.
   - Interpretability and explainability of derived personality and human
   behavior models.
   - Privacy-protecting personality modeling.
