Call for Short Articles
Encyclopedia of Human Computer Interaction
By: Dr Claude Ghaoui, Liverpool JMU, UK
Email: [log in to unmask])

New Deadline: The deadline has been extended to submitting by the 15th
May 2004 at the very very latest please!

An author may submit more than one short article(and up to two can be
published by the same author if accepted).

Overview
Human Computer Interaction (HCI) is an area that attracts innovation and
creativity in computing, IT and IS research and development, due to its
multi-disciplinary nature. For the last 25 years or so, it inspired new
solutions, specially, for the benefit of the user as a human being,
making the user the focal point which technology should serve, rather
than the other way round (when it was the case before HCI was taken
seriously). In such an ever-evolving environment, teachers, researchers
and professionals of the discipline need access to the most current
information in this fast emerging field. The Encyclopedia of Human
Computer Interaction will be most helpful as it aims to provide a
comprehensive coverage and definitions of the most important HCI-related
issues, concepts, trends and technologies in IS and IT. This important
new publication will be distributed worldwide among academic and
professional institutions and will be instrumental in providing
researchers, scholars, students and professionals, access to the latest
knowledge in this field. We aim to target a wide audience, starting from
people who never utilized HCI seriously before to professionals who
contribute seriously to the field, and all people in between, including
researchers, developers, teachers, people working in industry and
business, and to whom the concept of HCI can be useful in some aspects
of their everyday life. Contributions to this important publication will
be made by scholars throughout the world with notable research
portfolios and expertise.

Coverage
The Encyclopedia of Human Computer Interaction will provide a compendium
of terms and explanations of concepts, processes and acronyms. It will
feature short articles (1500-3,500 words) authored by leading experts
offering an in-depth description of key terms and concepts on a wide
range of HCI related topics, issues and trends in modern organizations
worldwide. So, coverage may include any of the following: background
information, basic concepts, review articles, challenges, case studies,
new advances and inventions, different applications, and real life
experiences stressing on lessons learnt, advantages and disadvantages,
and HCI in and for every day life. See below for a list of suggested HCI
topics on which you may base your contributions.

Invited Submissions
Individuals interested in submitting short articles (1500-3500 words) on
suggested topics (See the listing of suggested topics below) or other
related topics in their area of interest should email the editor
one-page, expressing an interest and outlining their ideas (you may
propose ideas to write two short articles), ASAP. We also encourage
other related topics that have not been listed in the suggested list,
particularly if the topic is related to the research area in which you
have expertise. Upon acceptance of your idea, you will have two months
to prepare your short article(s) (i.e. each short article consists of
1500-3,500 words and about 10 related terms and their appropriate
definitions). You will be then sent the guidelines for preparing your
short article, terms and definitions as well as a sample article and
terms and definitions. You may submit more than one short article.
Please forward your e-mail of interest including your name, affiliation,
full contact address, and a list of topics (5-7) on which you are
interested in writing a short article(s), and the number of articles you
wish to submit, to Claude Ghaoui at [log in to unmask] ASAP. You will
be notified about the status of your proposed topics soon after. This
book is tentatively scheduled for publishing by Information Science
Publishing, USA, in 2005.
