The First IEEE International Workshop on Fog and Edge computing in Internet
of Things


Internet of Things is growing every day, and with this growth, industries
need to find more efficient and effective ways to manage their data ,
communications and security issues. It has become clear that current cloud
computing systems won’t necessarily be able to handle the entire load of
data and computations – and that’s where fog and Edge computing come into
play. The main intent of Fog computing is to perform computations at the
endpoint (IoT device) instead of the cloud. Edge computing also helps to
execute IoT based application by reducing points of failure, as each device
independently operates and determines which data to store locally and which
data to send to the cloud for further analysis. The main intent of fog and
Edge computing is to improve efficiency and reduce the amount of data
transported to the cloud for processing, analysis and storage. This is
often done to improve efficiency, though it may also be used for security
and compliance reasons. For critical IoT based applications such as smart
health care, virtual reality based applications and smart agriculture
applications needs an adoption of the concept of fog and Edge on cloud. As
in every new technology, some challenges face the vision of the Fog and
Edge Computing, which are the resource provisioning strategies, scheduling
and data security concerns. This workshop aims to investigate the
opportunities and requirements for Fog and Edge Computing dominance. In
addition, it seeks for novel contributions that help mitigating Fog and
Edge Computing challenges. That is, the objective of workshop is to provide
a forum for scientists, engineers, and researchers to discuss and exchange
new ideas, novel results and experience on all aspects of Fog and Edge
Computing for IoT based applications. Researchers are encouraged to submit
original research contributions in all major areas, which include, but not
limited to:

    Middleware for Fog/Edge infrastructures
    Programming models and run-time systems for Fog/Edge Computing
    Scheduling in Fog/Edge Computing
    Fog/Edge storage
    Monitoring/metering of Fog/Edge infrastructures
    Fog/Edge Computing applications
    Algorithms and techniques for computation offloading from IoT to Fog/
    QoS provisioning in Fog/ Edge
    Secure network and service access in Fog/ Edge
    Privacy preserved analytics in Fog/ Edge
    Open issues, challenges, and future perspective of Fog/ Edge computing

Paper Submission Guidelines

Papers submitted to the symposium should be written in English conforming
to the IEEE Conference Proceedings Format. The paper should be submitted
through the symposium Edas submission system. Prospective authors are
invited to submit full papers up to 6 pages in length and authors are
allowed to purchase up to 2 extra pages. Accepted and presented papers will
be included into the IEEE explore. Authors of accepted papers, or at least
one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the
conference, otherwise their papers will be removed from the digital
libraries of IEEE after the conference.
