Call for Papers
9th Workshop Automotive HMI:
Natural and Adaptive UIs to Support Future Cars
colocated with MuC 2020 (http://muc2020.mensch-und-computer.de/)
September 7, 2020 (11AM-5.30PM, tentative) | Magdeburg
http://www.andreasriener.com/MuC2020WS/
========================================================================
Modern vehicles allow control by the driver with multimodal user inter-
faces (UIs), touch interaction on screens, speech input, and mid-air
gestures. These UIs are driver-focused and optimized for limited
distraction to not compromise road safety. Nevertheless, they are often
complex and it might be difficult to find specific features. Automated
driving in Level3+ will disrupt the design of automotive UIs as drivers
become passengers, at least for certain parts along the way. Similarly,
the car is being transformed into a social space where passengers can be
granted control over systems because they can devote their full atten-
tion without imposing safety risks. The complexity of advanced driver
assistance and in-vehicle information systems requires explanation to
the user, e.g., in which state the system is, interaction possibilities,
expectations from the driver or take over (TOR) timing. We expect novel
technologies to allow for natural interaction and adaptivity to design
valuable and future-proof interaction concepts for the changing interior
of (automated) vehicles. The goal of this workshop is, thus, to discuss
how natural and adaptive user interfaces can help to solve the mentioned
issues and to identify potentials for future research and collaboration.
Topics of Interest
==================
The main goal of the workshop is to discuss challenges and opportunities
for natural interaction & adaptive systems in automotive user interface
research.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Natural interaction in complex environments
* Adaptation to the driver state and driving context
* User experience design for automated vehicles
* User interfaces for novel user groups
* Inclusive interaction for social settings in the car
* Methods and approaches to foster trust and acceptance
* Concepts related to pleasure of driving
* Personalization of vehicle behavior and interfaces
* Approaches that support situation awareness through design
We welcome CONTRIBUTIONS from both academia and industry in either
GERMAN or ENGLISH language!
Submission Guidelines
=====================
Contributions are welcome in various forms including scientific papers
reporting user study results, theoretical concept papers, futuristic
visions or design concepts. We accept long (6-10 pages) and short papers
(2-4 pages) addressing one or multiple of the topics described above.
Templates for LaTeX/Word/Overleaf (same as for the main conference) can
be found at <http://muc2020.mensch-und-computer.de/autorenrichtlinien-
und-formatvorlage/>.
Papers have to be submitted before the submission deadline June 10, 2020
using ConfTool (https://www.conftool.com/muc2020/). Accepted papers will
be invited for presentation at the workshop and will be included in the
ACM MuC 2020 workshop proceedings. Accompanying videos, demonstrators of
automotive HMI systems or other media are explicitly desired.
Important Dates
===============
* Submission deadline: June 10, 2020
* Notification of acceptance: June 27, 2020
* Final version due: July 5, 2020
* Workshop at MuC: Monday, September 7 2020 (tentative), 11AM-5.30PM
