Information visualisation is the field of study that transforms abstract
and often

complex data into visual forms. It is a multidisciplinary field concerned
with the

development of theories, methods, and tools for a wide range of application

domains. At the user-end, it is used for ease of decision making based on
data,

enhances communication, extracts knowledge and plays a vital role as from
end

technology for artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics of big data.

This special issue intends to foster state-of-the-art research in the area
of multimedia

interaction and its applications within the context of information
visualization. It will

include a selection of the best papers presented at IV2019, the 23rd
International

Conference on Information Visualisation. The conference was held in Paris
France

from 02-05 July 2019, and in Adelaide, Australia during 16-19 July 2019.

This special issue is also open for submissions from outside the conference
forum.

The expected topics include, but are not limited to:

• Innovative proposals regarding advanced innovative, user-centered
multimedia

         interaction paradigms and models

• Advanced methodologies and technologies for multimedia information
visualisation

• New proposals for multimedia interaction applied to distance learning

• Augmented reality and virtual reality for information visualization

• Interactive multimedia applications for healthcare

Submission Guidelines

Authors should prepare their manuscript according to the Instructions for
Authors available

from the Multimedia Tools and Applications website. Authors should submit
through the

online submission site at https://www.editorialmanager.com/mtap/default.aspx
and select

“SI 1198 - Advances in Multimedia Interaction and Visualization” when they
reach the “Article

Type” step in the submission process on the MTAP website at:
https://MTAP.editorialmanager.com/ <https://mtap.editorialmanager.com/>.

Submitted papers should present original, unpublished work, relevant to one
of the topics

of the special issue. All submitted papers will be evaluated on the basis
of relevance,

significance of contribution, technical quality, scholarship, and quality
of presentation,

by at least three independent reviewers. It is the policy of the journal
that no submission,

or substantially overlapping submission, be published or be under review at
another journal

or conference at any time during the review process.

The special issue will consider papers extending previously published
papers presented at

the IV2019 conference, provided the journal submission presents a
significant contribution

beyond the conference paper. Authors must explain in the introduction to
the paper the new

contribution to the field made by the submission, and the original
conference publication

should be cited in the text. Note that neither verbatim transfer of large
parts of the conference

paper nor wholesale reproduction of already published figures is acceptable
and that the

extended version is expected to contain at least 30%original scientific
contribution,

e.g., in the form of new algorithms, experiments or
qualitative/quantitative comparisons.

The extended versions of IV2019 papers will undergo the ordinary review
process, and

be accepted only if well-suited to the topic of this special issue and
meeting the scientific

level of the journal.
