2020 IEEE Haptics Symposium

March 28-31 in Washington D.C., USA

Sponsored by the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and the IEEE Technical Committee on Haptics, the Haptics Symposium is the central venue for reporting research results and demonstrating novel capabilities in the field.

In 2020, this four-day conference will be held in Washington D.C.

- Cross-Cutting Challenges Theme Proposals: September 6, 2019

- IEEE Transactions on Haptics Short Paper: September 27, 2019

- Conference Technical Paper Submission: October 20, 2019

The 2020 conference has added a new, early submission option (deadline: September 27) for technical papers that authors wish to be considered for presentation at Haptics Symposium and simultaneous publication in IEEE Transactions on Haptics, as short papers.

Authors may submit their 6-page paper via this new track. Each paper will be reviewed by Transactions on Haptics reviewers and an Associate Editor. For papers receiving a decision of “major revision” after the first review round, authors will need to submit a revision within 30 days for a second review, which may result in a decision of “accept” or “reject.” If the decision after the Transactions on Haptics review is “accept,” the paper will be included in the conference and simultaneously published in the journal.

Any papers that receive a decision of “reject” after review by Transactions on Haptics will be evaluated for inclusion by the Haptics Symposium Conference Editorial Board, which will have access to the reviews and Associate Editor’s report. A paper may therefore be rejected from the journal but accepted for the conference. Such papers will be published in the conference proceedings rather than in the journal. A paper may also be rejected for publication by both the journal and the conference. Those papers that are accepted for publication in the journal will be included in the conference, where they will be presented by authors, and will be simultaneously published in the journal.

Authors choosing not to submit via the new journal track may still submit their papers directly to the conference where they will be reviewed following the usual procedure. If accepted, such papers will be published in the conference proceedings.

The 2020 IEEE Haptics Symposium is soliciting submissions for Cross-Cutting Challenge themes. The goal of these sessions is to address interdisciplinary challenges (“themes”) calling for unified solutions from the haptics community.

The deadline for submitting cross-cutting challenge themes for consideration is September 6, 2020. Further details will be provided in a forthcoming call for participation. Anyone interested in proposing such a theme may contact the organizers via email at [log in to unmask]

Washington D.C. is the capital of the United States and one of the most visited cities in the world. It is home to iconic museums and performing arts venues, including the Smithsonian Museums, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Kennedy Center. Many venues offer admission at no charge. Additionally, the yearly Cherry Blossom Festival will be nearing peak season in late March. The conference venue is the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington (Crystal City), a four-star hotel, which is 3 miles (4.5 km) from the Washington Monument on the National Mall. It is a four minute walk to the nearest metro station. Washington D.C.’s two airports of Dulles (IAD) and Reagan (DCA) offer direct flights to a broad range of international and domestic locations, and the city has an extensive subway (Metro) and other excellent public transportation options.

In addition to presenting exhibits, vendors and corporations are invited to help sponsor the 2020 Haptics Symposium to support the haptics community and maintain visibility within it. For more information, please contact [log in to unmask]
