A kind deadline reminder (Sep 9) for the two HCI-related special sessions at IEEE AIVR 2019,

*IEEE AIVR 2019, Dec 9-11, 2019, San Diego, CA, USA*

The IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (AIVR 2019), now in its second run, is a unique event, addressing researchers and industries from all areas of AI as well as Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality. This year's event features two HCI-related special sessions (see below).

Special session papers are treated like regular conference papers. They undergo a thorough double-blind review process. Accepted ones that are presented at the conference will be included in the proceedings and the IEEE Xplore digital library. Outstanding papers will be considered for inclusion in special issues of high ranked journals.

*Call for papers on AI for interaction and experiences in VR/AR*

Creating a perfect virtual or augmented world is one thing. Making it something that can be truly experienced in engaging, interactive ways that are also beneficial and gainful for users is a whole different story. In this special session, we want to focus on how AI-related technology can make these experiences richer, more powerful and more lifelike, and improve performance. Examples demonstrating how AI enables new usages of VR/AR or improves existing ones are welcome as well.

* Innovative usages for VR/AR requiring AI
* New application domains enabled by AI technology
* Machine learning for VR/AR interaction
* Sensor processing, including multimodal data
* Dialogue modelling and natural language interfaces for VR/AR
* HCI & AI for VR/AR; innovative interaction approaches

*Call for papers on Immersive Analytics*

Immersive analytics (IA) is an interdisciplinary research field that uses VR/AR to create truly immersive and interactive representations of big data for a better analysis and understanding. In this special session, we want to explore the state of the art in IA, identify problems and major challenges, and look into recent improvements and promising ideas. We are particularly interested in examples that show how AI and VR/AR can be brought together to create and improve IA.

Related topics include but are not limited to:
* IA for data analysis, exploration, and decision making
* Application domains for IA, including health, science & engineering, education
* Human factors related to IA, including perception, awareness, and cognitive load
* Good examples and innovative ideas for visualization, exploration, and interaction in IA
* Tools, standards, and best practices

*Deadline* for special session papers is September 9, 2019.
