INTRODUCTION TO STILL & MOVING IMAGE METADATA FOR THE VISUAL &
PERFORMING ARTS

2 One-day Workshops presented by:

Three of the UK Higher Education expert digitisation advisory Services
have combined to produce a one-day metadata workshop, to be repeated
at the following times / locations:

Wednesday, 31/05/00, 10.00 - 16.30  - British Universities Film &
Video Council, 77 Wells Street, London W1P 3RE

Friday, 30/05/00, 10.00 - 16.30 - Gilmorehill Centre for Theatre,
Film and Television, University of Glasgow, Glasgow G12 8QQ

AIM:

To introduce the concepts, issues and PRACTICAL APPLICATION of still &
moving image metadata in the creation of digital resources.

Each workshop is primarily aimed at those from the Visual & Performing
Arts communities who are relatively NEW to digitisation issues & are
planning, creating or developing digital resources that employ still
and / or moving images.  It will also be of interest to those outside
of these subject domains who are making use of still & moving images
in digital projects.

The workshops will focus on the practical application of metadata
issues to digitisation projects, through participatory sessions & will
address metadata issues for both the PRODUCTION & DELIVERY of digital
image data.

Schedule for each day:

10.00 - 10.30 - Registration
10.30 - 11.00 - Introduction to day: 'What is metadata & its role in
digitisation projects'

11.00 - 11.15 - Coffee

11.15 - 11.45 - 'Introduction to still image metadata for digitisation
production'
11.45 - 12.15 - 'Introduction to moving image metadata &
Performing Arts specific issues'
12.15 - 12.30 - Recap & look ahead

12.30 - 13.30 - Lunch

13.30 - 14.00 - 'Visual Arts specific metadata issues'
14.00 - 14.15 - Intro to Metadata exercises
14.15 - 15.15 - Metadata exercises in breakout groups, (with
refreshments available).
15.15 - 16.00 - Feedback on exercises
16.00 - 16.30 - Conclusions to day & feedback

Price for full workshop programme, including lunch, refreshments &
workshop pack:

u55.00, (inc VAT) for UK HE participants
u100.00, (inc VAT) for non - UK HE

Places are limited to 30 per workshop & closing date for applications
is 28/04/00 for London & 26/05/00 for Glasgow.

per attendee, please.  Payment may be made by purchase order or cheque
made payable to 'University of Glasgow')
