SIGCHI announced the introduction of a "tutorials-to-go" program for CHI
local sigs late in 1999.  This program is designed to help CHI local sigs
bring tutorials offered at the CHI conference to their locale.  For more
information, see http://www.acm.org/sigchi/education/tutorials2go.html.

A sampling of specifics of things that are happening at some of the CHI
local sigs:

 Europe

  SIGCHI.dk and the Danish National Centre for IT research are
  co-hosting a full-day conference on "User Oriented Design"
  (Brugerorienteret design) on January 19th at Aarhus.

  SIGCHI.NL: Op de eerste avondbijeenkomst van 2000 behandelen
  Jacques Terken, taalpsycholoog bij IPO, en Ellen Bosgoed, technisch
  natuurkundige bij KPN Research, het gebruik van spraak en spraak+
  interfaces.  Deze avondbijeenkomst vindt plaats op 11 januari bij
  het CIBIT in Utrecht.


 Americas (outside USA)

  CapCHI's next meeting takes place on Tuesday, January 18th,
  featuring Robert Gascho from Abstract Solutions, who will be
  presenting "The New Face of the Internet - Dynamic Web Interfaces."

  ToRCHI's January program will feature Ron Baecker & Illona Posner;
  they will give a talk and lead a highly interactive discussion dealing
  with the topic, "Is software documentation, help, support, and
  training informing users effectively?  If not, why not, and what can
  we do about it?"


 Australasia

  SIGCHI_NZ became a chartered CHI local sig on December 14.


 United States

  BayCHI's program January 11: "Tools for Knowing, Judging, and
  Taking Action in the 21st Century," Brenda Laurel.  The North Bay
  BOF will meet January 18; Eric Quakenbush will present a paper
  on agents, and Jessica Freiberg will lead folks on an Autodesk
  usability lab tour.  The Usability Engineering BOF will also meet
  January 18; Richard Anderson, Rick Bond, Janice Rohn, & Dan
  Rosenberg will address "Promoting Usability in Organizations."

  SanDCHI is formulating plans for a big chapter kickoff event.

  ConnCHI's next meeting: January 25, 2000, "The effect of individual
  characteristics on decision-support system compliance," Mark Wise.
  The meeting will be hosted by Karen Ansaldi of Otis Elevator.

  DC_CHI will meet January 10; Dick Horst will talk about UserWorks,
  his small consulting business specializing in usability engineering
  and user interface design.

  CHI-Squared will vote on a new logo and t-shirt design at its
  January meeting.

  GB/SIGCHI's January 11 program: "Beyond E-Commerce: Designing
  Educational & Informational Web Sites," Hal Miller-Jacobs & Meena
  Venkateswaran.

  MOCHI will feature a special usability tutorial and workshop session
  led by Judy Olson on January 12 at the University of Michigan.  Also,
  names of people who would like to run for MOCHI office will be
  collected.

  GatewayCHI's January 12 meeting will focus on "Planning for the St.
  Louis Metro Usability Test & Good / Bad St. Louis Designs."

  BuckCHI has unveiled a new logo that will appear on mugs available
  free to new and renewing BuckCHI members.

  CHIFOO's program January 17: Janese Swanson, "Empowering Girls
  Through Technology."

  PhiCHI is delighted to have for its January 12th meeting Steven
  Feiner, director of Columbia University's Computer Graphics and User
  Interfaces Laboratory, who will be discussing his research on user
  interface design issues for mobile augmented reality systems.

  Puget Sound SIGCHI's January 19 meeting will feature a panel
  discussion on search interaction.

  MilwauCHI will be holding elections in January for the offices of
  President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer; nominations
  are being solicited.
