The ACM CSCW conference is a leading forum for presenting and
discussing research and development achievements concerning the
use of computer technologies to support collaborative activities,
as well as the impact of digital collaboration technologies on
users, groups, organizations and society.

CSCW 2000 offers a full technical and social program designed to
introduce newcomers to the field, deepen and broaden expertise,
and encourage interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations.

Topics include culture and community, proximate and distant
collaboration, remote guidance, mobile work and technology,

learning, managing expertise, video technologies, collaboration
infrastructures, privacy, instant messaging, consistency
management, new interaction paradigms, and research in the
dotcom era.

General technical sessions begin on Monday, December 4 with

discussing his recent book Bowling Alone: The Collapse and
Revival of American Community. The conference closes on
Wednesday, December 6, with an address by Warren Thorngate,
Professor of Psychology at Carleton University, on The Economics
