Call for Papers 
Special Session “Digital Imaging for Health” 
for the “Imaging and Multimedia Analytics in a Web and Mobile World” 
To be held as part of “Electronic Imaging Symposium 2021”, San Francisco 

Submission deadline: August 26, 2020

Ever since the advent of imaging methods in medicine, image and media data 
has become a part of our health life. Now, digital cameras and smartphones 
enable us to collect images, videos, and other multimedia data from 
literally all aspects of our lives. Finally, since some years, tracking 
personal behaviors and vital parameters with smartphones, smart watches, 
or wearables has become commonplace for health and healthcare, for 
wellbeing and fitness.  These developments provide tremendous 
opportunities for new types of imaging and multimedia applications for 
health.  With this special session, we aim to discuss recent research and 
potential future work about image and media use in health related 

We invite authors to present completed work and work-in-progress, as well 
as concepts or position papers. Topics include, but are not restricted to:
•        Image and media analyses for health and behavior 
•        Interactive image and media applications for health 
•        Social media analysis for health and self tracking
•        Analysis of personal media collections for health related 
•        Life logging 
•        Life-long self tracking 
•        Understanding user behavior for health and media

Procedure of submission 
Authors are requested to submit an abstract of their talk by the 
submission deadline given below, outlining the background of their work, 
their findings and contributions to the field as outlined above. 
Submissions should be non-anonymized. Recommended length is 500 words with 
optional figures (no special format required). Submission should be 
submitted through the EasyChair system ( 
Abstracts are selected in a curated process involving the co-organizers 
and external experts. Criteria for acceptance are their scientific and 
technological quality, their relevance for the topic of the special 
session, their level of innovation and contribution, and their potential 
to spark discussion. 
Accepted abstracts are presented orally during the conference, either 
physically, or remote.
Optionally, after the conference the authors can submit a 4-6 page paper 
of their talk for inclusion in the Open Access conference proceedings.
