CALL FOR PAPERS

AI is becoming more pervasive in our everyday lives and people are increasingly having to relinquish control and decision-making to “smart” systems. Concurrently, people are confronted with a reduced sense of autonomy as a result of being monitored and guided in their actions by complex and autonomous technologies they do not fully understand or control.
In this research topic, the aim is to bring together existing knowledge and expand the scientific discussion from a multidisciplinary perspective on human-centered AI. While plenty of research is being done around this topic, it is important to explore and integrate research outcomes in the field from the lens of understanding how AI impacts human autonomy and agency. The research topic looks towards gathering evidence and consolidating grounded insights on how human-centered AI design could facilitate in respecting human autonomy and address related ethical and societal challenges posed by AI.

Contributions can address but are not limited to broader themes of:
• Explainable and transparent AI
• Human-robot collaborations
• Human-in-the-loop machine learning
• AI and human behavior
• User modeling and adaptation
• Ethics of AI
• Knowledge representation
• Social impact of automated decision-making
• Inclusive and fair AI design

We invite a variety of types of manuscripts including original research articles (incl. Empirical studies - qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods, meta-analysis, systematic reviews, hypothesis and theory, methods), conceptual analysis, design methodologies, brief research report as well as design explorations, case studies, commentary, and opinion.
