* Theme: Context-Aware Computing in CSCW
***
Context-aware computing has been at the centre of different research
efforts in the last decade. Acquiring, using, and sharing context
electronically creates a new potential for the way people work together.
Adding real world context to computer supported cooperative work (CSCW)
will enable a new quality of cooperation. Applications in CSCW have been
extended beyond the desktop to different work settings and into the
domain of mobile devices. Context and context-awareness becomes a
central issue in the design and realization of many systems and a
crucial factor for their success.

The understanding of context in CSCW goes beyond the traditional view of
context-aware systems as discussed in HCI and mobile computing. Sharing
information about documents, activities, artefacts in use, group
processes, and real world events is central to maximize mutual awareness
in group work. This special issue on "Context-Aware Computing in CSCW"
seeks to present a collection of original and high quality research in
this area addressing these challenges and reporting on findings and
solutions.

This special issue will appear in an upcoming issue (2004) of "Computer
Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) - The Journal of Collaborative
Computing - JCSCW"
(http://www.kluweronline.com/issn/0925-9724) a well known scientific
journal published by Kluwer Academic Publishers (http://www.wkap.nl)
