Call for Papers

2nd Workshop on User-Embodied Interaction in Virtual Reality (UIVR)

https://sites.google.com/view/uivrworkshop/

Co-located with Mensch und Computer 2020

Magdeburg, Germany 6-9 September 2020

*********************************************************

Important Dates

Submission Deadline: 06 June 2020 (Submissions through ConfTool<https://www.conftool.com/muc2020/>)

Notification: 03 July 2020

Camera-Ready: 10 July 2020

Conference Early Registration: 17 July 2020

Introduction
The representation of users is specifically important for Virtual/Mixed/Augmented Reality (VR/MR/AR) applications. The development of technological solutions and the understanding
of underlying cognitive effects challenges human-computer interaction (HCI) and related disciplines. A number of interesting research questions, such as realism of appearance
and behavior as well as their effects on perception and user behavior arise, that are yet to be explored. To support a discussion and the generation of a common agenda, we will organize a half-day workshop on User-Embodied Interaction in VR (UIVR) gathering researchers and practitioners emphasizing the discussion of different positions on applications and findings to collect guidelines for future developments.

Topics of Interest

UIVR 2020 seeks contributions in VR/MR/AR including, but not limited to, the following topics:

  * User embodiment technology in VR/MR/AR
  *   Body ownership and agency
  * Embodied interaction with multiple users
  * Perceptual and cognitive studies concerning user embodiment
  * Social interactions with embodied user representations
  *   Avatar appearance and behavior
  * Embodied interaction in asymmetric setups
  * Applications of user embodiment (therapy, training, etc.)
  *   Augmentation of user-embodied interactions
  * Haptic, tactile, and olfactory embodiment

Submission Information

This year, again, we will have different submission formats and especially encourage undergraduates and PhD students to submit preliminary work in the Flashlight Paper format. The following formats can be submitted:

- Full Research Paper submissions should not exceed 6 pages and should make novel technical, empirical, or theoretical contributions to the field.

- Short Position Papers should not exceed 3 pages and should foster (interdisciplinary) discourse, arguing with a strong position

- Flashlight Papers should not exceed 2 pages and may present preliminary work, approaches, or first results.

- Presentation submissions (limited to an oral presentation) may be accepted on the basis of a submission of preliminary published work, that will not be included in the workshop proceedings.

All submissions should be submitted using the English Language and be formatted in the Long Paper format of MuC 2020 (ACM Double Column), which can be download here<https://muc2020.mensch-und-computer.de/autorenrichtlinien-und-formatvorlage/>. It is mandatory that at least one of the authors of an accepted paper is present at the workshop during MuC 2020 to present the paper. For submission, please use the ConfTool<https://www.conftool.com/muc2020/> selecting the UIVR 2020 workshop track. All submissions (except presentation submissions) will be peer-reviewed and, once accepted, the paper will be published together with the MuC workshop proceedings.
