Dear all,

We’re pleased to inform you of upcoming calls for papers to various
tracks of the conference. This includes a call for submissions to the
“Intelligence in Spreadsheets and End-User Programming” (ISEUP)
workshop, as well as calls for posters, showpieces, and participation in
the Graduate Consortium. Submissions for each are due by May 8th, with
abstracts for ISEUP due by May 1st. Further details can be found below.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!
VL/HCC Organizing Committee

    ISEUP Call for Papers

The organisers of ISEUP 2020
<https://conf.researchr.org/track/vlhcc2020/iseup>seek original papers
on the theme of intelligence in spreadsheets, visual languages, and
end-user programming, including but not limited to the following topics:

  *

guidelines for design of AI for programming

  *
empirical measures of success for AI enhancements (beyond time and
    errors)
  *
novel application domains for spreadsheets (esp. those opened up by
    AI/ML)
  *
novel user categories (esp. those opened up by AI/ML)
  *
applications of well-known AI techniques to spreadsheets (e.g.,
    summarization, translation, clustering, classification, auto-completion)
  *
explainable, transparent, fair and ethical AI for spreadsheets and
    programming
  *
AI assistance for teaching and learning programming
  *

technology for solving AI/ML tasks in spreadsheets

Papers may make technical or theoretical contributions (or both), or
make a contribution as a position paper. This is a workshop;
descriptions of work-in-progress and late breaking work are welcome. In
the spirit of the SIGPLAN Republication Policy
<http://www.sigplan.org/Resources/Policies/Republication/>, inclusion of
a talk in the programme is not intended to preclude later formal
publication.

Please consider submitting any work you have ongoing in this area.
Details are available on the workshop website:
https://conf.researchr.org/track/vlhcc2020/iseup

In case of any questions, please contact Advait Sarkar
([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

    Call for Posters

The VL/HCC 2020 Poster Track
<https://conf.researchr.org/track/vlhcc2020/vlhcc-posters>provides an
opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss
their most recent advances, ideas, experiences, and challenges in the
field of visual languages and human centric computing. A broad range of
topics are appropriate for Posters. The following non-exhaustive list
illustrates the possibilities:

  *
Reflections on the past, descriptions of current initiatives, or
    visions of the future.
  *
Results presented in the main VL/HCC conference.
  *
    Current research work in progress.
  *
Results already presented at another conference or published in a
    journal.
  *
Efforts aimed at integrating research into education.
  *

    Efforts aimed at commercializing research.

Submissions consist of an extended abstract of no more than 2 pages,
including all text, figures, references, and appendices. The paper
(extended abstract) should follow IEEE Conference Proceedings format
standards.
You do not need to include a finished poster in your initial submission.
On acceptance, you should prepare your poster in an A0 portrait format
(841mm x 1189mm) for presentation at the conference.
For any questions, please contact the Poster chairs Austin Henley
([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>) and Justin Smith
([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>)

    Call for Showpieces

The VL/HCC Showpieces Track
<https://conf.researchr.org/track/vlhcc2020/vlhcc2020-show-pieces>offers
an interactive opportunity to show off your ideas or accomplishments to
the VL/HCC community. Formerly called “posters and demonstrations”, the
category has expanded to also include videos, downloadable apps,
handouts, electronic devices, physical prototypes, or any other
artifacts that facilitate meaningful interactions with other conference
attendees. A broad range of topics are appropriate for showpieces,
including:

  *
    Current research in progress
  *
Results presented in the main VL/HCC conference
  *
Results already presented at another conference or published in a
    journal
  *
    Existing commercial products and/or services
  *
Efforts aimed at integrating research into education
  *

    Efforts aimed at commercializing research

Each submission will consist solely of a PDF file, following standard
IEEE Conference Proceedings format. The PDF must have up to 2 pages in
length, plus up to 2 additional pages containing only acknowledgements
and an appendix of only figures, plus unlimited pages for references.
Note: the submission is not the showpiece. The showpiece itself does not
need to be submitted, nor does it need to exist when the PDF is
submitted. For example, if the showpiece will be a video, then the video
does not need to be submitted with the PDF.
For any questions, please contact the Showpieces chairs Michelle Ichinco
([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>)  and
Jun Kato ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

    Call for Graduate Consortium Submissions

The primary goal of the VL/HCC Graduate Consortium
<https://human-se.github.io/vlhcc2019/call-graduate-consortium/>is to
stimulate graduate students’ and other researchers’ thinking about the
design of programming languages, APIs, diagrams, models, and supporting
tools that include and support diverse and underrepresented populations
in computing.
Society has a clear need for broader participation in computing. One way
to support broader populations in entering and remaining in computing is
by ensuring that the design of computing systems supports all users. The
2020 GC aims to encourage and advance research both on understanding the
needs of underrepresented groups in computing and the design of
computing systems that support these groups.
The consortium is open to both master’s and PhD students worldwide.
Participation is particularly encouraged from PhD students who are close
to proposing a thesis, as well as from members of groups identified by
NSF as underrepresented in the sciences and engineering.
For any questions, please contact the Graduate Consortium chairs Michael
Lee ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>)  and
Stephen Oney ([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>).

    COVID-19 Arrangements

The VL/HCC Organizing Committee is aware of the current COVID-19
situation. At this time, the conference is planned to take place as
scheduled. The committee will continue monitoring conditions and will
provide updates if plans change. For questions, contact Craig Anslow
([log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>).
