Call for Workshop Contributions!

Workshop on Designing Computational Counterparts (or 'Otherware') – One-day Workshop at #NordiCHI2020

We're organizing a workshop at NordiCHI 2020 to explore the design of interactions with computational counterparts (or 'otherware'), like chatbots, social robots, or complex algorithms, beyond naïve anthropomorphism and zoomorphism.

We invite researchers, artists, designers, and technologists to submit a 1-4-page position paper, portfolios, films, artworks, pictorials or other creative pieces that describes their work and interest in cultivating the otherness of computational counterparts, as well as a brief personal bio. We encourage the ACM single-column Review Submission Format, but you are welcome to submit using any format.

More Information:

https://sites.google.com/view/otherware <https://sites.google.com/view/otherware>	or	https://nordichi2020.org/track-workshops#/

Contributions should cover one of the following or related topics:

· Novel interaction concepts for computational counterparts

· Alternative design approaches to naïve anthropomorphism and zoomorphism

· Challenges in cultivating Otherness

· Effects of computational counterparts on user experience and user behavior

· Ethical challenges in designing computational counterparts

· Potential beneficial application areas for computational counterparts

· Theory and/or research methods

· Case studies

Position papers will be reviewed by the workshop organizers and evaluated based on their novelty, quality, and relevance to the workshop themes. One author of the accepted papers is required to attend the workshop and register for both the workshop and for at least one day of the main conference.

Pre-register here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NordiCHI2020?

Important dates:

Position paper deadline: September 01, 2020

Acceptance notification: September 15, 2020

Virtual Workshop at NordiCHI: October, 2020
