Dear CHI people,

We invite you to join us for a half-day tutorial (in-person or online) at NordiCHI 2022 in Aarhus, Denmark, October 9th.
Website: https://futuremethods.aalto.fi/futureripples-nordichi.html

About the tutorial:
Foresight about possible futures is crucial for designers, applied research, and innovation. It requires thinking holistically, beyond only technological breakthroughs, to see opportunities and challenges. This tutorial will teach foresight skills you can apply in your everyday work and research projects.

We introduce the Future Ripples technique - a light-weight workshop-like foresight method that develops anticipatory capacities in innovation teams. It allows participants to explore implications and consequences of trends and signals collaboratively.

With Future Ripples we will touch on the traditional foresight process of scanning for signals, framing and futuring and introduce novices to the concept of uncertainty and consequential thinking.

By the end of the tutorial, participants will

  * Understand the first basic steps of a future-thinking process
  * Recognise the unfolding of direct and indirect implications of trends
  * Know how to use the Future Ripples tool for mapping out implications

Intended audiences:
We invite HCI researchers, designers, technologists, and anyone interested in learning how to apply a future-oriented mindset to their work practices. As this is an introductory course, participants are not expected to have any prior knowledge or expertise in foresight.
